Religious studies for grundschule and sekundarstufe

Many scholars and even parents belonging to different religion has expressed the need to include religious education beside the regular courses of physics, chemistry, mathematics, English, etc, so that a child get the real view of his or her identity from the very childhood. We all belong to certain religion and follow certain doctrines and values and including this venture in primary and sekundarstufe is a way to bring a child in face to face about the faith, values, customs, and beliefs of his or her religion. Religious education in grundschule and sekundarstufe is included to give children a glimpse of their caste, customs, values and religious status.

Education does not mean only to satisfy the intellectual urge, it is something, which must appeal to the morality of a human and must arouse his conscience. Sometimes under the burden of academic learning a child does not get to know and learn the very essence of his or her religion and as a result grows up in ignorance and tend to deny it later. Religion is all about the moral urge of any human, which in turn builds hid character, mentality and viewpoint towards the society and for this essential aspect of this study, it is included in the grundschule and sekundarstufe as well. However, besides the advantages there are certain limitations, which come in the way of including religious education.

Whereas, in schools the teaching of moral education can be included, this, appeals to children of all religion and caste devoid of any communal feeling. In a particular class, there are Christians, Hindus, Muslims etc, and amid them preaching and educating them about any particular religion is unfair. The biggest hurdle is the assimilation of students from different religion under one roof in grundschule. Therefore, there should be adequate infrastructure in the school to conduct separate religious education class for Christians, Hindus, and Muslims etc respectively, which is always not possible for all schools. Again, if this above procedure is followed, then there hangs a danger of rivalries and jealousies arising among students from different religion. They may unite into different religious fractions, which can be both harmful and disturbing for the environment of the educational institution as well.

Therefore, according to experts, religious education in sekundarstufe are not so much viable under all possible conditions, therefore they are best suited for home, under the guidance of parents, so that they can develop an understanding about their cultural and religious reasons.
